One year

Yesterday was our one year anniversary.

In the last year, we've:
Gotten married
Finished grad school and graduated college
Traveled through France
Lived on the lake
Moved to New York City
Started a new job and searched for the perfect graduate program
Made new friends
And of course, learned how to live together, love each other, and be married.

It's been the best year of our lives, and we can't wait for many, many more.

This is not a garden:
We don't have a yard or even a window box, but for a long time, we've been wanting to grow our own herbs.
On the first sunny weekend, we ventured to the nearest gardening shop and picked up a few of our favorite cooking herbs: spearmint, basil, oregano, and cilantro.
With some trepidation we began potting our new lovies.
Now they live in our windowsill. We are crossing our fingers that we can keep them alive!

BBQ and Bowling Shoes

We recently discovered this list of the best BBQ in the city, and we've made it our mission to try every single one.
We started with The Smoke Joint near our old place in Brooklyn.
Whitney and Leash joined, and we filled our table (and stuffed our bellies) with ribs, chicken wings, pulled pork, brisket, BBQ chicken, cornbread, mac n cheese, collard greens, baked beans, and spicy fries. They even had sweet tea and a huge bourbon list.
Despite a stoic and somewhat unfriendly waiter (we've missed you, Brooklyn), the food was delicious, and we devoured it in minutes.
For Cinco de Mayo, we went to a food truck festival at South Street Seaport.
Afterward, we went bowling at an alley/bar near our apartment.
Forget pitchers. This is how they serve you beer (and no, we didn't drink it alone).
One of us had to get kids-size shoes. We'll let you guess which.

Smores brownies

If this doesn't make your mouth water, we can't be friends.
Last week, Chubs was craving smores, so we whipped up these little beauties, using this recipe from the Brown Eyed Baker.

It starts with a graham cracker crust, then you add brownie batter, bake it off, then top with marshmallows and broil until crusty and smorestastic.
Crumble a little graham cracker on top.

Yum. A word of warning, though: these decadent brownies won't last long in your kitchen.

A few weekends ago

We are a little behind. The last few weeks have been crazy in the best possible way. They've been filled with friends, food, and mini-adventures. Here's a peek into our life a few weekends ago.
